Southampton – Jay Rodriguez showed his loyalty to Southampton. Although rumored to be the target of some big clubs, preferring Rodriguez signed a new contract with the Saints.
Rodriguez sidelined all season 2014/2015. He had a long time to pull over because of a severe knee injury in April 2014. However, the 25-year-old striker has recently returned to training.
Before the serious injury, Rodriguez was impressive along Southampton. He packed 17 goals in 39 games last season.
Rodriguez in recent time was widely rumored to be ogled by Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Manchester City even though he was in a state of injury. But, Rodriguez seems to have wanted to get away from St Mary’s Stadium.
Rodriguez chose to sign a new contract with Southampton, which is valid until 2019. The contract he previously would have run out in 2016.
“It was a tough season because I had to miss. But, I am very happy to sign the contract. Now it is a matter of looking into the future,” said Rodriguez, quoted by Soccerway.
“The medical team worked tirelessly with me. So this is good news. I just want to continue to improve and try to get the time to play,” he said.
