LONDON – Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, insists that Petr Cech is still a role for his team despite no longer be in a prime position just under the crossbar of the Blues.
Cech is the main goalkeeper Chelsea since recruited from Rennes in 2004. However, the ration of play dropped dramatically since Chelsea recalled Thibaut Courtois from Atletico Madrid, in July 2014.
“The most important thing is what he brings to the team in the field, where it is very qualified,” said Mourinho.
“When Courtois injury against Arsenal and Petr Cech played for 20 minutes, I was very calm. I never worry about the turn of the goalkeeper position.”
“So when you are on the bench has a super goalkeeper Petr Cech as it is the most important thing. Obviously, he wants to play, and that’s why I play it a few times. I had to give someone a natural ambition to become a top goalkeeper.”
“I have to feed that ambition. I do not say want to keep it happy, because being happy players have to play in every game, but at least to make him feel our love, respect, and need it,” added the Portuguese manager.
